The latest Resident Evil game series has been released worldwide on January 24, 2017. Capcom as a developer and publisher of this horror game never run out of ideas in developing this phenomenal game. This time they give something new to the game entitled Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. This latest version is really different from the previous Resident Evil game series because it has no relationship in terms of story or even the gameplay. So, in this Resident Evil 7 review, We will tell everything that we know about this game.
About the Game
This game tells the story of Ethan Winters in July 2017, a civilian whose background is unknown. He got a message from his wife, Mia, who has been lost since three years ago. Then, he went to the abandoned plantation in Dulvey, Louisiana to find his beloved wife. He finally found his wife isolated in an abandoned house. When they tried to escape, Mia became wild and attacked Ethan which forced him to kill his own wife although she is not really dead.
Ethan got a phone call from a woman named Zoe who revealed an important information that she (Zoe), her family, and Ethan’s wife (Mia) are infected by a disease. But, it can be cured by a special serum. Then, after that, Ethan tried to find the serum to save them all.
We will act as Ethan Winters who tried to find his wife Mia. By using the first person camera, you will explore the game in terrifying environments. We are able to arm ourselves with some weaponry such as the handgun, shotgun, chainsaw, flamethrower, and explosives in order to fight the enemies. Also, we are able to do a quick turn of 180 degrees in order to avoid any attack and do a block to resist the enemies attack which can reduce the damage that we will receive.
The unique thing about this game is that we can avoid any encounters with the enemies by silent and simply running away to avoid them. Along the way, you will also find some useful items and puzzles to be cleared. Some of the items can be combined with the other items. Some others can be examined to reveal secrets from the puzzles.
What Makes This Game Different from the Previous Versions?
There are several things that make this game different from the previous RE game that we have ever seen before.
Using the First Person Perspective
When previously we used to play Resident Evil game in the third person perspective, now we will use the first person perspective. In this game, we will see the viewpoint from the character itself so we will not use the third person camera anymore where our view is behind the character. This first person camera is the first time to be applied in Resident Evil game.
Not an Action Game
The genre of all the previous versions of Resident Evil game is action horror. But, this one is not applying the same genre because it is more like a survival game where we have to survive and try to save ourselves. But, it does not mean that there is no combat or action in this game. The game is more focus on giving the horror atmosphere in the game.
Exploring the Map
Unlike its predecessors such as Resident Evil 5 and 6 where the game is played by clearing stages, RE 7 makes the player have to explore the map to find items, clear the puzzles to reveal secrets, fight the enemies, and to finish the game.
Playable in Virtual Reality
Nowadays, the technology of Virtual Reality has been used in so many ways, as well as the game. The gameplay is still the same, but you will feel the feeling of horror more than when you play this game without using a Virtual Reality. The game will be more thrilling and it feels like we are playing directly into the game.
Available for Some Different Consoles
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is available in so many consoles. We can play it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. If we have the PlayStation 4, we can connect it with the PlayStation VR headset to play the game in Virtual Reality feature.
